Harper’s BAZAAR Diamond Guild Australia Jewellery Awards 2007

Noosa jeweller wins award for best in design at the Harper’s BAZAAR Diamond Guild Australia Jewellery Awards 2007
Noosa jeweller Gordon Herford has won the Harper’s BAZAAR Diamond Guild Australia 2007 Jewellery Award in the Pink Diamond category, announced at a black-tie dinner at Sydney’s Shangri-La Hotel last night (Wednesday, October 24).
Mr Herford created a stunning yellow and white gold ring featuring pink and white diamonds, judged by a panel of fashion and jewellery experts as the best design entry in the Pink Diamond category.
Designing for his jewellery house, Gordon Herford Master Jeweller in Noosa, Mr Herford was inspired by floral lace for his piece, Fleur de Luminiere (or Flower of Light).
“Two bands were incorporated to create one ring, one being an 18-carat white gold concave inner band set with a bed of 220 white diamonds and the outer band was hand-carved creating a floral design which was in 22-carat yellow gold and set with varying sizes of pink Argyle diamonds in the centre of each flower,” said Mr Herford.
Mr Herford explained that the yellow gold highlights the pink and white diamonds which make a bold yet feminine statement.
He said his designs are about having a sense of the theatrical while keeping them simple and feminine.
The glittering celebration of the best of Australian jewellery design talent was attended by Harper’s BAZAAR editor, Alison Veness-McGourty, Diamond Guild Australia ambassador, model and actor Erika Heynatz, and leading Australian fashion designers Camilla Freeman-Topper, Alex Perry, Terry Biviano, Kit Willow, Kirrily Johnston and event MC Lisa Wilkinson.
“The second Harper’s BAZAAR Diamond Guild Jewellery Awards celebrates Australia’s leading jewellery designers,” said Alison Veness-McGourty, editor of Harper’s BAZAAR. “Diamonds are the epitome of luxury and elegance and a timeless symbol of style.”
“Gordon Herford has shown distinguished leadership in this category and thoroughly deserves this accolade,” added Ms Veness-McGourty.
Cameron Marks, chairman of the Diamond Guild Australia, said “the Diamond Guild Australia represents the leaders in the diamond jewellery industry in Australia and sets the benchmark for quality in diamonds”.
“The Harper’s BAZAAR Diamond Guild Australia 2007 Jewellery Awards is an opportunity to showcase the outstanding innovation and style of Australian designers.”
“Entries came from both well–established and up-and-coming designers around the country and this prestigious accolade will catapult the winners’ standing in the jewellery industry and with discerning jewellery buyers,” said Mr Marks.
